ESSENCE Path to Power with Northwestern Mutual

Northwestern Mutual joins ESSENCE Senior Editor, Charreah Jackson to host a panel discussion with Myleik Teele, founder and chief experience officer of curlBOX and MyTaughtYou, as well as Ashaunda Davis, Northwestern Mutual financial advisor. Hundreds joined the conversation as they share their experiences and strategies for helping women reach their personal and professional financial goals.

ESSENCE HOUSE LA

Moderated by ESSENCE News & Politics Director Yesha Callahan, the panel included celebrity hairstylists Kim Kimble and Felicia Leatherwood, celebrity makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff, and actor / SAG-AFTRA Chair Jason George. Each panelist shared their own unique experiences when it came to joining their respective unions and the pros of being part of one.

NAACP 51st Awards Gala Hyundai

Hyundai Motor America celebrated Black History Month with its continued commitment to diversity inclusion by hosting Brigadier General Charles E. McGee as the keynote for their 2020 celebration and sponsorship of the NAACP 51st Image Awards Show Gala Aftershow.

All-Star Legends Brunch

The Legends Brunch is an annual event that happens during the All-Star weekend, organized by National Basketball Retired Players Association. More than 200 retired NBA players were in attendance.

NBA All-Star Weekend Tech Summit

The NBA held its Technology Summit — an annual All-Star Weekend event — at The Westin Charlotte. The theme was “Game Day.” After opening comments from NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, panels included “Modern Media in the 21st Century,” featuring AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson, “Betting on the Future,” “Chasing Gen Z,” “Evolution of Disruption,” “The Connected Athlete” and a one-on-one interview with Hornets Owner Michael Jordan, moderated by ESPN’s Michael Wilbon.

ABFF Film Festival

ABFF always recognizes the accomplishments of the next generation of filmmakers at their annual awards presentation. Actor/Producer Chris Spencer hosted the “Best of ABFF” Awards at the New World Center. During the ceremony, American Black Film Festival founder, Jeff Friday received the key to the city of Miami Beach from Commissioner Ricky Arriola and Ruban Roberts-Miami Dade NAACP President. It was also announced that ABFF signed a deal to return to Miami Beach for the next three years.

JBL NBA Retired Players Association Party

Kenny Smith’s annual NBA All-Star party rocked — on a Hollywood studio lot Chris Webber, Lisa Leslie and Kenyon Martn were in the house.

ESSENCE Black Women In Hollywood

ESSENCE, celebrated Hollywood luminaries and culture disruptors during its 13th annual Black Women in Hollywood Awards, which was held at the ritzy Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. The invitation-only pre-Oscar event was abuzz with Hollywood movers and shakers—from actresses to musicians, industry executives and more. Among the elite talent present were: Ava DuVernay, Gabrielle Union, Issa Rae, Kerry Washington, Lena Waithe and more.
